Field Engineer
CurrentStarted off as a cable engineer, manually pulling 8/5mm micro duct over varying distances, reading maps, taking notes, at times training others in the job role, then going home to fill out "production" otherwise known as end of day report, on excel spreadsheets, for me and my team. (Team usually consists or 1 other person, however it has been as much as 5 other people as well as myself - team of 6).This role also involves reporting issues and blockages back to the office, making sure all information is provided and is clear/precise ready for another gang to go and clear it. Also the most important thing, filling out risk assessments, as we are working in the streets with many cars, pedestrians, animals, poor weather and many other risks!I have now progressed in the company to a "Fibre blowing engineer" This role still applies the map reading and "production/end of day report", risk assessments, and problem reporting as the last role, with the addition of; Using Accel Air 2 blowing machine, which is the machine used to blow fibre, through the 8/5mm micro duct from one cab to another ready to be spliced. Problem Solving, if we do not recieve air from one Cabinet to the Next then we as a team of 2 have to keep sending air down the microduct, following the maps, tracing where the air stops/starts. We then need to figure out how to resolve the issue, once we find it, whether that be retubing due to a kinked tube, adding in a missed connector, tubing a missed section. This can be a time consuming process, consisting of a lot of walking, manual handling and understanding. This job role requires me and my team to have/be; - Great Communication-Team Player-Being a leader (understanding, listening, taking action)-Impeccable Organisation-Flawless time keeping-Resilience (as you are in all weather's all day) -Quick thinking (for problem solving) -Professional (Customer/public facing) -Aware (Working in public - many pedestrians/risks) -Physically Fit
