Ryan Hall Work Experience Details
  • Direct A/V
Design Engineer Intern / Autocad Operator
    Direct A/V Jun 2007 - Present
My current position with Direct A/V has given me the opportunity to utilize the design skills acquired in the electrical engineering courses that were incorporated in the mechanical engineering program at San Diego State University. The engineering responsibilities assigned to me included; reviewing customer specifications regarding the operational requirements of the proposed system, integrating the correct products to achieve these requirements, and designing circuitry to support user interface. These projects included; Terminal 3 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system that was integrated with the inline customer baggage screening process at Los Angeles World Airport, conference rooms with interactive video conferencing for the City of Gardena Council Chamber, and large format public viewing area with multiple video display units for the ESPN Zone at the Nokia Center located in Los Angeles. The Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), and Final Design Review (FDR) processes are incorporated in the development of all projects. The delivery method for these designs was based on AutoCAD 2008. All required documentation was submitted for customer review as part of the design process with customer comments and feedback integrated into the project revisions. I work closely with the senior staff engineers to maintain the company design criteria that the customer base has come to expect. This provides me the opportunity to learn different approaches to problem solving and exposed me to a large selection of industry products available to the design community.

Senior Project: Couette Flow Tunnel_Sponsored By Nasa
San Diego State University Aug 2004 - May 2009
The goal of this project is to design a flow tunnel that simulates flow conditions for flames by reducing buoyant flow and see how different materials being ignited will act in a micro gravity environment. The functional flow tunnel will consist of possibly testing different materials upon completion of the flow tunnel. Testing the materials will be consisted of igniting them and looking at how they burn (distance traveled at a specified time, heat flux, boundary layers, etc). The flow tunnel will have a moving conveyer belt in order to move the air across the burning material with a consistent velocity. This project is important to future research and testing in regards to astronaut safety. This will ultimately lead to safer environment for our astronauts to work in, decreasing the chance of fire in space. It is necessary to see how quick flames will spread in space depending on how oxygen enriched the cabin of the space shuttle is. The higher percentage of oxygen will allow for a fire to spread more quickly than a less percentage of oxygen. The ultimate goal for this research and project is to figure out a safe environment that astronauts may work in, but at the same time keeping the oxygen level at a certain percent where a fire will not spread too quickly. We are engaging ourselves in this project in order to reinforce our knowledge of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and combustion. Along with this research and development, we optimistically will better understand how buoyant forces affect flame spread.
