I have been teaching organic chemistry at Ball State for 13 years. I began to use an active learning style classroom in Fall 2015 and haven't looked back. Recently I've started to use Specifications Grading in my Organic 1 class. Organic and polymer synthesis and characterization.Organometallic catalysisHigh pressure reactions including the use of carbon dioxide and hydrogen

Assistant ProfessorBall State University Aug 2009 - Aug 2019Muncie, Indiana AreaDuring the Fall 2015 semester, I adapted my traditional chalkboard lecture classroom format for First Semester Organic Chemistry to an active learning format. Students now spend class time working in small groups on problems, and answering them using a classroom response system. Student feedback regarding the active learning format has been positive, and I have noticed a decrease in the percentage of D, F and W grades. I teach chemistry for allied health students and organic chemistry, both lab and lecture sections. I've recently developed an online version of our allied health chemistry course, this is for experienced health care professionals. During the Spring 2013 Semester I produced "Organic Chem Prep: Four Online Modules for Chem 231," which is designed to help incoming organic chemistry students better prepare for the new concepts in organic chemistry. -

Undergraduate Research AssistantUniversity Of Wisconsin-Madison Oct 2002 - May 2004I worked on microwave mediated organic synthesis. We used a sheet of paper as our solid support for the rapid synthesis of a library of chalcones. We could make up to 96 different compounds in a matter of a few hours using the microwave reactor to heat the very small volumes of solvent and reagents on the paper support.
