About Ryan Lehane
Working in a lab setting since 2011, I have developed a broad set of synthetic and characterization techniques. With an overwhelming majority of my work being air-sensitive I have achieved a high proficiency with glovebox, schlenk line, and high-vacuum line usage. Additionally I have worked extensively with material synthesis including solvo-thermal and tube furnace syntheses. My knowledge of characterization includes GC-MS, UV-Vis, NMR, EPR, IR, and CV. UV-Vis, IR and NMR includes both room-temperature and low-temperature applications.
Listed skills include Teaching, Laboratory, Research, Chemistry, and 13 others.

Senior Research Scientist
Quality Control Group Leader - Research Products
Senior Qc Chemist
Graduate Research Assistant - Kim Lab
Investigating the reactivity of iron sulfur clusters, commonly found in proteins, with nitric oxide (NO) gas--a signalling molecule relevant to the immune, nervous, and circulatory systems in humans. Additionally, investigating whether these clusters could be the point of cross-talk between NO gas and hydrogen sulfide, another important signalling molecule with a great deal of functional overlap with NO. Recently, investigations have grown to include reactivity of iron-sulfur clusters with reactive oxygen species, including peroxides and superoxide.
Graduate Student
Studied Organometallics, Chemical Applications of Group Theory, Advanced Materials Science, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Physical Inorganic/ Solid State Chemistry, and Bioinorganic Chemistry.
Graduate Research Assistant - Bernskoetter Lab
Worked on small molecule activation and redox chemistry on Ni(0) and Co(-1) centers toward reduction of carbon dioxide to industrially relevant chemicals i.e. acrylates. Further investigated oxidative addition to a Co(-1), the ability of the metal to maintain anionic character, and its ability to transfer that nucleophilicty to substituents. Utilized a wide range of synthetic and experimental techniques including, but not limited to, glovebox, schlenk line, and high vacuum line usage.
Graduate Teaching Assistant - General Chemistry Lab
Supervised General Chemistry Teaching lab for first year undergraduate students. Position included grading of exams and lab reports as well as mentoring and guiding students through their first laboratory experience.
Graduate Teaching Assistant - Inorganic Chemistry Teaching Lab
Set up and supervised Inorganic Teaching Lab activities including preparation of starting materials and required reagent solutions. Guided students through their first experience with Inorganic Chemistry lab activities including NMR, IR, UV-Vis, and GC-MS sample preparation and analysis. Also worked as Head Teaching Assistant in 2015, supervising and guiding first year graduate students in their first upper level teaching lab experience, including production of grading schedules and rotations and job delegation.
Research Assistant Manke Lab
Designed and synthesized metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for the purpose of selective carbon dioxide capture from atmospheric pressures and concentrations. Also investigated post-synthetic modification utilizing thermally-labile protecting groups to avoid interpenetration of the crystal lattice. Utilized a number of synthetic methods including solvo-thermal, tube furnace, and air free techniques-e.g. glovebox and schlenk line syntheses. Characterized products using NMR, X-ray crystallography, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and Accelerated Surface Area and Porosimetry (ASAP) analysis.
Teaching Assistant
Worked with students in traditional and Honors level General Chemistry teaching labs. Activities include lab preparation, student supervision, and grading duties.
