In this role @ Bullhorn, I had the pleasure of working alongside and helping to lead a ragtag group of analysts and developers doing our part to wrangle, wrastle, munge, and present data that hopefully provided insights that enabled well-informed business decisions. My role was equal parts data developer/engineer/architect, provider of thoughts, and sharer of domain knowledge. Our team existed within Bullhorn's Information Productivity group, which encompassed Data Warehouse, Business Intelligence, and Systems Integrations. We were fortunate to have the need and purpose to interface with just about every aspect of the business at all levels.More recently, I lived in Snowflake for data warehousing, Python for scripting ELT/ETL, and Qlik for reporting. I truly enjoyed making design decisions, iterating, and making it happen -- all day, everyday!

After being part of a great technical team that drove customer success in Professional Services, the opportunity arose to transition into a newly created data-driven role within Bullhorn's Product Development organization (aka R&D), where I could take on new challenges, grow my technical skills, and make an impact on a SaaS business product used daily by over 200,000 users. This role initially centered on being part of a strategic dev team to build and implement a highly anticipated self-service reporting tool inside the Bullhorn flagship product, in which we experienced a very successful and popular product release. (This was a fun team. We keep our old team slack channel alive to this day, no matter how many years will pass.) After that major release, the role transitioned into providing guidance on all data architecture decisions for any new product features during their inception, and formal script approval for SQL-related code deployments.

Moving into a formal, hybrid leadership role introduced a new challenge: Balancing a heavy workload as a fully utilized senior engineer while also directly managing a team of 5-8 engineers of all skill and experience levels. We're talking escalations, mentoring, performance reviews, the whole 9 yards, while having just as much individual contributor work of my own scheduled as any member of my team. This was exciting to say the least. It definitely helped having an awesome team, conscientious project managers, and fully engaged customers. Easy.

After building my skillset and taking on larger customer data implementation projects, I moved into a Senior position and took the point on some high profile and strategic projects. I also took on a more active role in creating and improving on Data Migration processes and became a voice of leadership on the team.

After "putting in work" and closing support tickets until the cows came home, sometimes with a bit of flair, I got the opportunity to become a Data Engineer in Professional Services, focused on migrating our customers' legacy data onto the Bullhorn platform. *I might have exaggerated my SQL abilities, just a little, before getting this role*, but I can tell you there was no better way of learning than in the field and on the fly in this fast-paced, demanding environment. This was my trial by fire. It was a ton of grit and effort, and my experiences in this role did the most to shape the kind of teammate, engineer, and leader I am today.

In my first position at Bullhorn, I was lucky to join an awesome Technical Support team and helped Deliver an Incredible Customer Experience (that is the mantra, after all). This was my segue into a technical role, having only studied Economics in college but beginning to dip my toes in SQL in my spare time -- and hoping to one day make a career out of it. I had a blast working in a startup environment. We even had overnight shifts!
