A quietly passionate designer and detailer;a generalist, educator and early career advocate.I am an architect and a business owner of Fulton Trotter Architects, an awesome mid-sized practice of about 50, based in Brisbane and Sydney> Alongside full-time practice I also:> teach a 12 week short course in architectural detailing called Moss Architectural Learning,> organise events on design for aged care and seniors living called Places for Ageing Australia,> previously convened the PALS course in Brisbane for architects registration, and remain part of the current online series,> contribute to the Institute’s education committee, focusing on the transition to practice.> was nominated for the Neville Quarry Architectural Education Prize in 2023 (didn’t win!)> regularly write and present on practice, early career, technical architecture and design.Born in Townsville, raised in Durban, Empangeni, London and Johannesburg, trained in Sydney and now settled in Brisbane, I bring that adaptability to my work.As part of a very capable team, our practice specialises in community architecture and social infrastructure projects- aged care, social & seniors housing, health & hospital, education, libraries, and public space. We believe fundamentally in the importance of communities, and the strength of good responsive design to support them. We love working with regional communities and councils- supporting the life of small towns. Our belief in good community extends to both our built work and our work culture- we’re a happy practice and we like to work with people that value the same things. We provide leadership, imagination and experience to solve complex and complicated design problems. We ask lots of questions and often arrive at unexpected solutions.Uniquely, for over 80 years we have maintained our focus on traditional architectural skills and forms of building delivery. We believe this provides our clients the combination of technical experience and talent to properly deliver for them.We continue the firm’s long tradition of mentoring, training and developing young people- we’re as committed to developing great architects, as we are to great architecture.Always keen to connect with the young designers in the pipeline and good people in industry
