Alongside my core role of Senior Operator (Control Room), I also carry out the role of Deputy Operations Superintendent for 1 week each trip, where I support the Operations Superintendent in managing the production, maintenance & services teams to ensure safe and efficient liquidation of work load and asset priorities. I carry out operational improvement projects with vendor assistance where required and coordinate onsite on arrival. I complete preparation, planning and work sequencing to allow execution of annual facility outage & equipment maintenance campaigns.I also deputise as Production Supervisor, covering the position if required, leading the production team ensuring safe & efficient operations, and control-of-work are carried out in line with the integrated operations plan.

I was promoted into this role prior to First Gas introduction onboard the Culzean facility to carry out continuous Senior Control Room Operator duties. Here I continued to support the final dynamic commissioning of remaining hydrocarbon & power generation systems along with system handover & acceptance. I was also the on-shift Senior Control Room Operator for First Gas Export.With the plant systems now fully operational, I continue to support safe and reliable operation of the >100,000boepd Culzean development via the control room.I have been involved in the planning & execution of turnaround campaigns and high level ESD testing. I continue to seek improvements of the facility systems by undertaking self-driven projects involving ICSS automated sequence upgrades, operating procedure creations & amendments, and control logic modifications to improve operating efficiencies.I have completed my L&D9DI Assessor qualification, whilst training new-start CROs as well as Production Technicians seeking development into the control room.

Similar to my previous role, however here I have worked throughout the project phase of the Culzean high pressure / high temperature gas development and thereafter into the operations phase.I joined the project during the fabrication stage in Singapore Admiralty shipyard where I was involved in discipline acceptance checks of new equipment, along with the review, witnessing and verification of mechanical completion, pre-commissioning & commissioning test packs by SMOP project and third-party vendor work teams, acting as client representative.Upon completion of the yard phase, and during the platform sail to the U.K.C.S, I worked within the Aberdeen office focusing on operations readiness documentation where I developed and reviewed production operational procedures and system manuals. Also, whilst in Aberdeen, I carried out extensive training within our Control Room Operator Training Simulator made-up of a standalone operational Emerson Delta-V ICSS and a HYSYS process model package. Whilst here, I completed operational procedure testing & verification as well as plant start-up/shutdown and troubleshooting scenarios.Once the topsides were installed on station in the Central North Sea, the hook-up and commissioning stage was completed. During this I was involved with the commissioning & dynamic commissioning activities of platform utility and hydrocarbon systems, in preparation for systems being ready-for-operation. Upon completion of commissioning activities, system acceptance and Ready-For-Start-Up checks were then completed involving high pressure nitrogen leak testing of all hydrocarbon systems prior to first gas, along with full system line-walks and category punch listing. I was also involved in ICSS preparation for first gas where full electrical ‘black-out’ testing and recovery was completed, along with a host of automated sequence amendments & verification testing and ESD/PSD final logic testing & verification.

In this multi-skilled role I continued to carry out instrument technician corrective maintenance and breakdown duties on topsides production systems previously described.I also carried out the primary role of production technician on the FPSO production facilities. This included the safe start-up/shutdown, monitoring and operations of the production systems.Regular duties also included isolation/preparation for maintenance of production plant and related equipment, de-isolation/return to service of plant and equipment, creation of isolation/de-isolation work packs adhering to company standards, draining/flushing/purging/venting activities in preparation for break of containment, leak-testing as part of return-to-service, riser & well tree valves integrity testing, laboratory sampling and analyses and production trainee mentor-ship.As an additional responsibility, I also carried out the role of Permit-To-Work/S.S.O.W. Coordinator for the installation, practicing a paper-based system. This involved the distribution and control of all work permits on a daily basis, ensuring all authorizations were granted and conflicts identified prior to issue. I was also responsible for the control and security of associated electrical and process/mechanical isolations/de-isolations as per a lock-out box system. I also ensured that any additional controls were in place/carried out prior to permit issue, and if required, removed after permit suspension/cancellation, such as safety system inhibits/overrides, area gas tests, and work site safety inspections.I also carried out Control Room Operator duties, where I ensured that expected production rates were met by remotely monitoring plant operation, and making adjustments if needed, within operating parameters. I ensured that flare and produced water disposal constraints were not exceeded, and that all wells were operated within strict optimisation guidelines.

As an instrument technician on the Gryphon I was responsible for carrying out preventative and corrective/breakdown maintenance on instrumentation on the following systems:• Emerson Delta-V Production Process Control System• Wormald Production E.S.D. and F+G Systems• Kongsberg Marine Process Control and Safety System• Solar Gas Turbine Control System• Dresser-Rand / Allen Bradley Controls for Reciprocating Gas Compressors• Bardex / CSE Controls for Hydraulic Turret Turning and Locking System• Bently Nevada 3300 Condition Monitoring Systems

As an instrument technician on the Curlew I was responsible for carrying out preventative and corrective/breakdown maintenance on various types of process plant instrumentation and control systems such as:• Silvertech Process Control, Process Shutdown and Fire & Gas Systems• Yokogawa Safety Critical E.S.D. and H.I.P.P.S. Logic Systems• Siemens Control Systems for E.G.T. Typhoon & RLM1600 Gas Turbines• Kvaerner Subsea System• Moores Cargo and Ballast System• Harris Caprock Telecomms and Satellite Tracking Equipment• Fixed Fire Fighting Deluge and CO2 Systems• Visual, Close and Detailed Inspections on Ex EquipmentMy work also involved installation and commissioning relating to new equipment detailed in engineering work packs. I created and reviewed work permits and risk assessments on a daily basis and I am proficient in the use of the Maximo work management system were I completed work logs, entered testing and calibration results, created/managed work orders and located and assigned materials.I was also an active safety representative which involved me chairing weekly safety meetings with my department, taking part in incident investigations and promoting a safe working culture throughout the installation.

As an instrument technician for U.K.A.E.A. I was responsible for carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance on various types of plant instrumentation systems such as:• Pressure, level, flow, density, temperature, humidity, pH, load and speed sensors, transmitters (and their associated indications), gauges and switches• Radiological protection equipment which includes a number of alpha, beta and gamma activity-in-air and detection monitors connected to various nuclear safety interlock systems• Audio, visual and network equipment such as audio inter-comms, cameras and data structured cabling• Nuclear re-processing & storage, radiological containment ventilation and environmental monitoring DCS utilising GE Fanuc and GEM-80 PLCs.Experience with instrumentation installation and commissioning work such as:• Manufacturing and wiring of C & I panels as per assembly and wiring diagrams• In-active and active commissioning testing such as pre-installation instrument calibration, loop checks and function tests as per commissioning schedulesDuring my time as a tradesman I attended college to gain my BSc Degree (with Distinction) in Electronic Engineering and achieve EngTech membership status with the I.E.T.

During my time as an apprentice I carried out the work as detailed above but under the supervision of a tradesman. During my apprenticeship I attended college to gain an NC in Multi – Disciplinary Engineering, and an NC, HNC and HND in Electronic Engineering. At work I also completed an SVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations and an SVQ Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance.
