Ryan Steindl Senior Mechatronics Engineer, started working with CSIRO autonomous systems laboratory in early 2013. Graduated Mechatronics Engineering at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 2013. Work at CSIRO revolves around robotic system design with a focus on legged locomotion. Most notably Ryan is the principal engineer of MAX, CSIRO’s Ultralight Legged Robot a paradigm shift in robotic design construction and control. This technology has been expanded upon allowing for extreme field deployments such as the Amazon robot. A single man deploy-able, experimental autonomous legged platform that explored the Amazonian forest floor of the Mamiraua reserve in Brazil. Currently Ryan is expanding the ultralight robotics design paradigm into a new legged robot platform for the upcoming DARPA SubT challenge. .Notable other robot designs of Ryan’s include Gizmo, a small legged inspection robot intended to explore roof cavities. Zee, a Medium sized inspection robot intended to conduct final build inspection of aircraft wings cavities, Magneto a Magnetic foot climbing robot capable of traversing any incline including full inversions. Duties include operation of 3D printing laboratory for the autonomous systems laboratory, exploration of 3D printer technologies and the ability it incorporated 3D printing into function robots to make them more functional and cost effective. Ryan provides systems level engineering support for research projects spanning multiple disciplines within DATA61. Ryan Steindl resides in Brisbane Australia.
