Here on the Clair platform we use systems such as ISSOW, Maximo, a Stop card system etc...In which I am required in a day to day basis to make up permits. Again as in other roles I assist other trades (mechanical, electrical, ops) when needed. From time to time I also have to liaise directly with other services such as scaffolders and riggers when required. As part of my role as charge-hand I order materials directly from suppliers... I regularly have to test electrical circuits, test motors and control equipment. Change and test defective components when required. Change belts, pulleys and bearings when required. In addition my role entailed industrial electrical installations servicing and testing, building and designing control circuits, electrical fault finding and light PLC work. Also fault finding on PCB boards, soldering etc. Installation of 3 phase and single phase wiring, lighting circuits and transformers direct start motors and also “star delta”. I am also very capable of tracing wiring and circuits using wiring schematics as done so on a day to day basis. On the mechanical side, I regularly had to overhaul industrial compressors (Sabroe, Grasso, Bitzer, Dorin, Bristol, maneurop, l unite hermitique), change belts and pulleys, pulley alignment, replace bearings, service pumps and valves. I also had to install copper, steel, instrument pipe work depending on the application (Ammonia etc) I had to work safely in hazardous and non-hazardous environments, using Ex. and intrinsically safe equipment, under a strict permit to work system. Also on a day to day basis I had to read piping schematic drawings to trace pipe-work, ductwork, dampers, heaters and other system components.On the commissioning side I was actively involved with pressure testing, system evacuation and charging of systems on all applications, cold stores, water chillers, air handling units chill rooms, blast freezers, belt driven freezers, tunnel freezers skinning machines, HVAC, ice machines, air conditioning units - ( high cool, Mitsubishi, daikin, fujiitsu etc ) Won Institute Of Refrigeration Scottish Apprentice Of The Year 2007..
