As Technical Director, I played a pivotal role in choosing the correct technologies, processes, and architectures used by our teams in the development, deployment, and maintenance of our projects. At the same time, I completed my own projects, and provided mentorship / assistance for team members who needed it.• Designed and lead the development of the commercial VPN solution VPNinja (http://vpninja.com) from the ground up:• Acted as team lead on the design and architecture of the social utility HiShanghai iPhone & Android apps (http://hishanghai.info/). Implemented the php/xml-based server-side api.• Managed all internal & external networking, server, web, and cloud-based services.• Developed and maintained an Ubuntu Linux-based Network Video Recorder (NVR) operating system image with a custom Django-based web front-end, for our child company nnodal Technologies (http://nnodal.com)

Aquila Technologies, a division of Caterpillar CanadaDesigned, developed, and performed field fitness evaluations for a software telemetry solution using C/C++ on an MPC555-based module running OSE RTOS to access a mine truck’s productivity information. This software was built from scratch, and consisted of:- A web service for device configuration.- A NAT service to provide access to PPP/RS232-connected devices.- A FTP server to provide access to telemetry data.- A custom UDP service to listen for and process GPS correction data.Hundreds of these modules were deployed at over a dozen mine sites, and provided Aquila Technologies with a new product that was met with very high customer demand before it was even out of alpha developmentDesigned a suite of office applications in Visual Basic and C++ to interact with mining vehicles using wireless technology. These applications include:- Software for managing “blasting maps”, allowing the user to view, modify, and transmit maps to in-pit vehicles. The map-viewing/editing interface was implemented from scratch using low-level GDI calls.- Data retrieval, storage, and reporting software for managing productivity information retrieved from in-pit vehicles.- Visualization software for displaying rock strata based on detected composition.This product suite provided much needed communication and data services to enable Aquila Technologies to meet the growing informational needs of the mining industry.

Wrote technical documentation for a naval simulator and configured Solaris-based test-bed servers with shell scripts and cron jobs to provide testing services for the QA department.
