I enjoy helping technology companies (and companies that use technology) deal with the complex legal issues that they face in today's marketplace, particularly as it relates to acquiring, selling, managing, and commercializing technology resources. As a business law generalist in the technology space, I regularly get to assist businesses in their technology-related legal matters in a variety of exciting ways:* strategizing with management;* negotiating or drafting term sheets or contracts;* managing, negotiating and closing transactions; and* handling contractual issues or disputes.I have had the fortune of regularly working with companies across Canada and internationally who are systems integrators, consultants, video game or new media producers, developers, retailers, publishers and service providers, and have acquired significant experience in mergers and acquisitions, technology outsourcing, service provisioning, venture capital funding, employment matters, licensing issues and commercial contracting. I'm also a self-professed geek as well as a former software and Internet developer (though admittedly from the days when a Web Master was a thing), and I feel that it lends me a unique insight into emerging technology issues important to today’s businesses, such as Internet security, open source software, cloud computing, social media and anti-spam.
