The Institute for Public Strategies (IPS) is a public health organization. that specializes in implementing upstream, population-level prevention programs that reduce health disparities and advance equity. IPS works alongside residents and other stakeholders to advocate for policy and systems change to protect health and safety, prevent community trauma, and expand opportunities so that people can reach their full potential.

UCLA’s Fielding School of Public Health provides cutting edge public health training and practical, hands on experience to the next generation of public health leaders.I worked with Dr. Nina Harawa for a project that aimed to assess the relationship between incarceration and fatal overdoses in Los Angeles County, the first study of its kind.

Department Of Emergency Medicine

The Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center Emergency Department (ED) is a comprehensive emergency facility staffed to provide 24-hour response to the emergency care needs of the community.As a research assistant for the Department of Emergency Medicine, I use a variety of clinical research softwares such as REDCap, eSOCDAT, and OnCore to assist the Staff Research Associates with a wide variety of clinical research studies. Some of my primary duties include chart abstraction, patient interviews, and data organization/entry.

The Partners for Rural Transformation (PRT) is made up of 15 organizations that are committed to serving rural communities in persistent poverty across the nation. Partners for Rural Transformation is led by a steering committee made up of six Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) that serve three-quarters of the country’s persistent poverty counties.As an Advocacy & Intern for Partners for Rural Transformation, I collected, cleaned, and organized large-scale datasets relating to rural housing and health. Additionally, I used Microsoft Excel and Power BI for statistical analysis and data visualization to inform PRT's advocacy agenda. Finally, I created comprehensive written reports analyzing legislation relating to rural America at the local, state, and federal level.

Emergency Medicine Research Associates (EMRA) is a primarily student-run, faculty-supported clinical research program at UCLA. Based out of the Department of Emergency Medicine in the David Geffen School of Medicine, EMRA consists of a team of undergraduate students who assist with various studies at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.As a clinical research associate for EMRA, I collect data, conduct data abstraction, and communicate with various UCLA Health team members to assist with the screening, enrollment, and consenting of patients for a wide variety of clinical and observational studies at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics (LEAP) is a national, nonprofit organization, with a mission to achieve full participation and equality for Asian and Pacific Islanders (APIs) through leadership, empowerment, and policy.I was selected to be part of the LEAP Emerge Cohort, an eight week summer internship program designed to empower young leaders through a week-long intensive retreat followed by weekly group coaching and professional development sessions. As part of the internship, I also worked with my intern cohort to write and design a 100+ page magazine about the contemporary API experience that will be distributed to LEAP's community partners and sponsors.

Founded in 1979, the mission of Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC) is to provide a comprehensive array of social welfare and community development services to assist low income individuals and other persons in need, contribute to community revitalization and cultural preservation in Little Tokyo and among the broader Japanese community in the Southland, and to provide such resources to neighboring Asian Pacific Islander and other low income communities.As an intern for the Homeless Services Department of the Little Tokyo Service Center, I assisted the housing navigation team with their on-the-street case-working and wrote a 50+ page research brief on the conditions of unhoused Asians and Pacific Islanders in Los Angeles. Currently, I am overseeing a needs assessment for LTSC that aims to better understand the needs of unhoused Asians and Pacific Islanders.
