In the summer of 2019 I decided to put the career path I walked on pause. I felt my life lacked a sense of fulfillment and purpose, so I decided to make an abrupt change. I took advantage of my youth and lack of responsibility (no family, mortgage, or pets) to fulfill a lifelong dream of traveling on my own for a year.This trip, though cut short, was a very rewarding experience. I learned more about myself than I had in the last 26 years of my life. My confidence, in myself and my decisions, grew immensely. I learned invaluable skills in management and cognitive empathy. I learned to be flexible and adapt to ever changing circumstances. My communication skills grew exponentially while I effectively bridged the language barrier with many diverse groups of people. I’m grateful I had this experience. I highly recommend everyone, at least at some point in their life, to take a solo adventure.To start, I bicycled across the United States from coast to coast starting in New York City and ending in San Francisco. In October, I flew to South Korea to hike for a month before making my way to Vietnam. There, I rode a motorbike for 3 months through breathtaking mountains and valleys. I met incredibly generous and compassionate people who invited me into their homes to eat, swap stories, and sleep.I made my way to Cambodia to visit world renowned temples and explore local villages. Afterwards, I took an 18 hour bus ride to Vientiane, Laos which took 46 instead. I had to make many calculated decisions to prevent it from taking longer. After Laos I made my way to Thailand, landing in Chiangmai before heading to the southern islands.When I arrived in Phuket, the Coronavirus pandemic became much more vivid. Businesses began closing along with international borders.
