Profile bio

About Ryan Swick

I was an elementary and middle school educator of 6 years in San Francisco before transitioning during the pandemic to a graduate degree and a new career in policy. Teaching virtually during the pandemic illuminated the intersection of policy failures that made the classroom inaccessible for my students and families. While I could speak passionately about how to ameliorate struggles for my school community and others like it, I had none of the technical skill, which motivated my decision to receive my MPP. While in my program, I worked adjacent to the Michigan state legislature, analyzing relevant education-related legislation and budgets to communicate the most salient information to educational stakeholders in West Michigan. It was here where I developed real-world skills to make effective change through policy analysis and writing. After graduating, I returned to San Francisco to apply my new knowledge and experience to this new context of transportation policy in the city that I love.

Listed skills include Higher Education, Leadership, Human Development, Organization, and 11 others.
