I began my journey in the Biotech Industry in February 2021 as a Research Associate I. Over my three years at Epic Bio, I was promoted to Research Associate II and eventually to Senior Research Associate in March 2023. As an independent researcher on the Functional Genomics team, I conducted rigorous research experiments for a wide range of projects, including the company’s lead gene therapy asset, from discovery to IND-enabling stages. This asset, EPI-321, is a treatment for Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD), the leading cause of adult muscle dystrophy affecting over 1 million patients worldwide. EPI-321 ultimately received FDA Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) and is currently seeking IND clearance from the FDA prior to initiating first-in-human clinical trials in the US, a major company milestone. While working in the Hansen Lab, I gained insight into the mechanisms cells use to create dynamic spatial diversity in signaling cascades on intracellular membranes, focusing on the enzymology of phosphatidylinositol phosphate (PIP) lipid modifying enzymes. Additionally, I supported efforts to study directed cell migration in human neutrophils by designing experiments based on the biochemical reconstitution of immune cell signaling.
