I am a licensed attorney in the State if West Virginia, with experience of 20 years, the majority of which has been in the health care space. I have broad subject matter expertise in federal healthcare regulatory frameworks, including Medicaid, Medicare, PPACA, HIPPA, False Claims, and Stark/Anti-Kickback among others.My 24 year legal career includes significant public and private sector experience. I served as Associate Counsel at the West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner for 9 years, focusing on workers’ compensation and PPACA; more recently, I served as General Counsel for the West Virginia Bureau for Medical Services, which administers West Virginia’s Medicaid program. Private sector experience includes one year of law firm litigation experience, one year working for Guidehouse, a global healthcare consultant, and one and a half years as VP of HR for a Professional Employer Organization. Most recently, I worked as In-house Counsel focusing on regulatory compliance and government affairs for a 5-state regional healthcare provider based in Huntington, West Virginia. My overall body of work as an attorney would best qualify me as a "healthcare generalist,” although I also have substantial experience from earlier in my career in workers' compensation and other property and casualty insurance, as well as employment law. I am passionate about both healthcare regulatory compliance and evolving health care policy in the US.
