Profile bio

About Ryan D.

I am a professional urban planner whose work focuses on the intersection of lived experience and data to drive changes in both the public realm and Public interest. I have several years of experience in urban design, land-use, community engagement, research report writing, and data analysis in both Qualitative and quantitative methods. Furthermore, I am proficient in industry standard softwares such as Adobe, AutoCad, lumion, Cadmapper, Nvivo, SPSS, SAS, etc. I understand the importance of the planning profession as one that is embedded in the community, and recognizes that changes in zoning, land-use, and grant funding opportunity should benefit those most impacted by the historical harms done by the city and its government. I hope the work I continue to do never loses sight of the work that needs to be done.

Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Management, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and 11 others.

Koontz Lake Comprehensive Plan

My Studio 670 class had the opportunity to work alongside community leaders in Koontz Lake, IN to help them update their comprehensive Plan. Overall we completed a 60+ page document detailing suggestions and possibilities from legal standing, EPA, and communities that match their size. As a team, the biggest issue we saw from our SWOT analysis was that being a lake town caused a fluctuating in the population size. My capacity on this comprehensive Plan was to look at the current state of the Lake and what measures the community can take to speed the process and removal of the Blue-Green algae and the eutrophic nature of the lake. I explored cost effective measures like dredging, and repurposing the dredged material; As well as, what kind of regulations can be enacted to protect the lake. For example a restriction on use of high phosphorus fertilizer or a "phosphorus free buffer zone" would reduce high nutrient material getting into the water. I also worked collaboratively on wayfinding and mobility in the community and utilizing the lake as a source of tourism and revenue during peak summer seasons.
