It was an exciting and inspiring environment to be in!I jumped right into my role at Totohealth leading changes to improve our product design and value chain, executing strategies to revise our SMS platform implementation, and overseeing finances and refining investor proposals.

Eager to learn, I pursued consultancies with Arboreum in addition to my full time positions with start-ups in Tanzania. This proved to be a formidable experience as I led projects which sought to support global non-profits and the government of Tanzania develop strategies to implement new policies related to early childhood development. In addition to further honing my strategic and analytical skills, I was able to also expand my professional development in leading projects from their proposal stage to completion, as well as managing client relationships.

Silverleaf Academy is a social business aiming to provide a network of affordable, high-quality primary schools in Tanzania. What was supposed to be a short-term placement to design and implement a monitoring and evaluation framework for Silverleaf's primary donor, led to a full-time position. I enjoyed the opportunity to work with the growing Silverleaf team and provide my analytical skillset to solving key challenges the start-up faced - how to navigate the legal process for opening a private school in Tanzania, how to set up a payment account with mobile providers so parents could pay school fees, how to implement a platform that would allow the company to keep track of school budgets, student registration, etc. across a growing portfolio of schools?

Through Grameen Foundation's one-year fellowship, I was placed with their sister organization, Grameen-Jameel Microfinance, which provided financing and consulting services to microfinance institutions in the Middle East and North Africa region. In my role, I supported Grameen-Jameel to identify new product offerings. This included implementing a virtual survey of among their member microfinance institutions in the region to identify strategic needs and also designing a business strategy to launch mobile financial services.

Working closely with staff based in CRS field offices, I designed and conducted a cross-sectional survey to inform their evaluation of five-year project to improve livelihoods of 5,000 smallholder coffee farmers in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Rwanda. While most of my work was remote, I had the opportunity to travel to Nairobi to present findings and strategize plans for phase two of the program with colleagues from the three countries during a multi-day workshop.
