SoCal Sea Turtles was founded by Sabrina Mashburn in 2016. In April of 2021, SCST incorporated, and Sabrina became the company's President. Once SCST received 501(c)(3) status in February of 2022 (back-dated to April, 2021), Sabrina became the Executive Director, in charge of all day-to-day operations, including in-person and online outreach and education planning, delivery, and curriculum development, as well as web design, social media coordination and content creation, merchandise design, and fundraising/development. Along with Sabrina's day-to-day running of SCST, she is supported by a Federal Advisory Board consisting of advisors from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Marine Turtle Research and Protected Species Divisions, as well as the US Navy. SoCal Sea Turtles, Inc. also has an active and diverse Board of Directors comprised of individuals from both the non-profit sector, as well as private industry. SoCal Sea Turtles, Inc. hopes to expand our team in the coming years in order to provide sea turtle outreach and education to anglers, boaters, and the general public throughout the US West Coast region.

SoCal Sea Turtles is dedicated to protecting California's endangered and threatened sea turtles through public outreach, education, and awareness initiatives. We work closely with our partners, including NOAA, the US Navy, the US Fish & Wildlife Service, the Aquarium of the Pacific, and others to ensure that sea turtle populations along the California coastline continue to recover.

Environmental consulting & communications

• Design and conduct original surveys and Key Informant interviews.• Analyze results in order to research connection between awareness of Green turtle population and small boat strike and entanglement in Southern California.• Present results in a formal, peer-reviewed scientific paper.• Share results with NOAA staff in Long Beach, CA and at the SWFSC in order to inform future management of the Southern California Green turtle population.• Designed outreach materials for the public using Adobe Illustrator to increase awareness of resident Green turtle population and their preferred local habitat.

• Created curriculum and corresponding websites for original courses including Aquatic Ecology, Animal Behavior, Aggression & Territoriality in the Animal Kingdom, Courtship & Mating in the Animal Kingdom, and Coral Reef Ecology. Acted as part of the team that designed City-As-School’s Gateway Program, a first-year experience to acclimate students from traditional schools to the alternative model. • Advised 32 students each year, which included evaluating transcripts, making recommendations for both academic and extracurricular experiences, college advising, and communicating with parents, social workers, guidance counselors, as well as outside organizations, on behalf of advisees. • Designed materials to assist students in reading and writing scientific papers, which were shared with the entire faculty, as well as teachers from other schools throughout NYC. • Procured grants through DonorsChoose.org and other organizations to allow students to design, build, and care for over 22 aquaria and terraria housing species from myriad terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.• Led workshops for faculty on the use of technology in the classroom, and assisted other members of the faculty in integrating technology into their curricula. • Member of the City-As-School Professional Development Committee, as well as the City-As-School Portfolio Committee. • Participated in Professional Development and coaching with the Educational Video Center (2013-2014), and Digital Ready (2013-2014). • Attended the New Tech Network Conference (2013). Participated in two Academy for Teachers Master Classes on Cognition (2013) and Genetics (2014). • Completed the American Museum of Natural History’s Seminars on Science course in Neuroscience (2014).

• Created the Private Prep SAT II Biology E/M Subject Test curriculum.• Taught curriculum to tutors and high school students.• Co-authored original SAT II Biology practice test.• Prepared students with LD for NYS Living Environment and Earth Science Regents Exams.• Taught research, writing, time management and study skills to students with LD.

• Certified to teach Biology to students in grades 7-12 under the Transitional B Certificate. • Taught Biology and College Prep to students in grades 9-12. • Created curriculum and laboratory experiments aligned to the NYS Living Environment Regents Examination.• Mentored students and created customized academic and professional development plans for them.• Built and maintained a collection of living laboratory specimens.

• Taught classes about marine mammal and sea turtle biology, ecology and conservation to villages along the southwest coast of Madagascar in both French and English. • Developed and donated educational materials focused on these topics for coastal residents of all ages. Wrote, edited and published an ecotourism website for Ambohibola: https://sites.google.com/site/ambohibolamadagascar/. • Performed line-transect surveys of coral and other benthic animal species abundance, biodiversity and condition at six sites along the southwest coast of Madagascar using SCUBA diving equipment.

• Taught English to local high school students.• Conducted transect surveys of fishes, hard and soft corals, and other benthic species alongside BV staff using SCUBA diving equipment.

Taught basic concepts of conservation biology, ecology, zoology and animal behavior to children ages 5-13. Led activities including exhibit interpretation, academic exercises and in-class animal demonstrations.
