About Saede Eifrig
My professional goals are to work in the intersection of sport and DEIA, which represent a fusion of my personal, academic, and professional experiences. I pivoted from refugee resettlement to a more sports-oriented, community-driven position/organization. My areas of interest include LGBTQ+, anti-racist, and refugee and immigrant initiatives in sport. I’ve lived and worked internationally, primarily in the US and Germany, and am always looking for ways to create connections across borders.I am fascinated by acknowledging sports as a reflection of society and a lens for understanding structures of power. I approach my coaching philosophy with that acknowledgment and seek to expand my DEI and positive youth development skillsets to more closely connect my passion for sports with my professional goals: creating opportunities for people from marginalized communities to find confidence and community through sport.I have worked with and advocated for refugees through volunteer work in Berlin, Germany and Amman, Jordan, academic studies at Haverford College and Middlebury’s Jiran program, and professionally as Program Assistant at USCRI. As a student and co-captain of the women’s soccer team at Haverford College (where I earned my B.A in Anthropology, minor in Arabic, and Concentration in Middle East and Islamic Studies) I facilitated team and athletic department wide discussions revolving around DEI and participated in DEI trainings. I am continuing this work as an alumni representative in Haverford Athletic's DEI working group. I co-created a project to redesign the Haverford Athletics DEI webpage as a member of Haverford’s DEI(T-thriving) program my senior year and carry on this work with the Haverford Athletics DEI working group. Currently, I practice positive youth development as a youth soccer coach and in my role as Associate Manager in Programs at DC SCORES. At DC SCORES I also facilitate enhanced programming and partnerships with DC UNITED and the Washington Spirit. My senior thesis explored the impacts of the FIFA Hijab Ban and the interplay between sport and power by investigating sport for development (SFD) projects’ frameworks and through a case study of the first major women's football tournament hosted in the Middle East: the 2016 U17 Women's World Cup in Jordan. This project was rooted in my experiences volunteering with and learning about SFD programs as a study abroad student in Amman, Jordan.
