Safara Malone Email and Phone Number
Safara Malone is a Black transgender woman from Texas, and award winning national transgender youth advocate. She's a Sophomore at Harvard, and is one of the first openly transgender Black women to attend the University, where she will study Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies & Government. Her work began as part of the Roses Council, sponsored by GSA Network, filled with trans girls of color nationwide. Roses focuses on how stories can impact laws and generations. It was through this program she found a passion for helping young girls find their identities, pushing the narrative that trans girls are just like everyone else. Safara has been able to meet some of the biggest names in trans advocacy, even speaking alongside members of the Transgender Law Center in an intergenerational advocacy panel. Having spoken with the Huff Post, leading national transgender justice events, being featured in the Associated Press (and other news publications), speaking at the Texas capitol against anti-trans legislation, and being featured in a documentary entitled "You're Loved", Safara focuses on how normalizing and sharing the real trans experience can help change the narrative. She is also part of a community advisory board for a research project building trans-affirming sex education, sponsored by the University of Washington. This is the first project of its kind backed by the NIH, with trans youth advising the research goals. She has even pursued forms of education for her work, in a Black trans-centered organizing program at the Transgender Law Center, entitled the Fierce Freedom School, where she was the only teenager in the program's history. Currently, she holds a position as a Policy Intern at Transgender Education Network Texas (TENT), the largest state-wide Transgender advocacy organization in the nation. She thinks her visibility during this contentious time for trans youth could be a beacon of light for other Black trans youth to look to for representation, showing that despite the systems built against trans people, they can break through and live happy lives.Safara hopes to pursue transgender advocacy as a career, through nonprofit and policy work. She is open to work, internships, media requests, or further education in transgender, LGBTQ+, and Black liberation policy and advocacy. For any inquiries or opportunities please reach me a SafaraMalone@gmail.com

ResearcherUniversity Of Northern Colorado Jun 2022 - Jul 2022Greeley, Colorado, United StatesAs part of the Frontiers Of Science Institute at the University Of Northern Colorado. There, I presented my research project entitled, Examining Job Engagement in the Collegiate Sports Management Industry Through Gender Theory. In this project, I was the principal investigator working with Logan Schuetz, Ph. D. who was my research mentor. My poster examined people in the collegiate sports management industry and if their self-reported person-organization fit and leader political skill predicted higher job engagement, differentiating between males and non-males. Our study is one of the few in the industry, and the only at the subsequent research symposium, inclusive of genderqueer people. Our study found that high leader political skill predicted a positive significant increase in job engagement across the gender spectrum. There were no found published studies that reported this data across the workplace, meaning if published we would make significant advancements to published literature. In person-organization fit, we found a positive significant increase in job engagement for males but not for non-males, a phenomenon we found specific to the collegiate sports management industry.
