Principal Researcher And Consultant
CurrentAs a Researcher & Consultant, I am hired by international NGOs to research and advise on equitable humanitarian aid programs for the Rohingya people. Specifically, I analyze access to justice and health supports for Rohingya refugee women and girls. Through my work with the Islamic Relief Canada, I specifically evaluated support for Rohingya refugee women and girls in Bangladesh surviving sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). I created, planned, and coordinated the research project. I will also co-author the advocacy report this will ultimately culminate in for Islamic Relief Canada's efforts to advance Rohingya rights.https://sakshishetty97.wixsite.com/women-on-the-move
Research Assistant: Gender And Decentralization In Myanmar
This project is part of the International Development Research Centre and Global Affairs Canada’s “Knowledge for Democracy in Myanmar” (K4DM) initiative. It aims to examine the factors that affect the delivery of public services (education, health, and security) in five ethnic minority states in Myanmar (Kayin, Kachin, Magway, Rakhine, and Chin), which represent Myanmar’s diverse ethnic composition. In particular, the project will address the new fiscal and administrative state-level powers to provide education, health and security under the current decentralization initiative, and whether they use a gender-sensitive approach; the strategic deployment of resources and personnel to address women’s concerns and set priorities for reform, especially within the security sector; and local communities’ expectations in education, health and security, with a focus to identify gender-specific priorities of men and women. As a Research Assistant, my role involves examining and analyzing collected primary field research to assess the impacts the initiatives have on women and girls across intersections of migration status/ethnicity/marital status/socioeconomic status etc. This research will manifest into policy papers and other reports to be disseminated to organizers, NGOs, governments, and the general public.

Researcher - Women On The Move
https://WomenOTMove.wordpress.com/Through funding from the Asian Institute at the Munk School of Global Affairs, a colleague and I have been researching the plight of Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar. We have analyzed this issue through various political understandings of Islamophobia, Myanmar's policies of Isolationism, American interventionism, and many other lenses, all of which we have compiled into an research essay publication. (Link below)During the summer months of 2018, we conducted on-site primary research in Bangladesh to analyze the extent of Gender Mainstreaming in humanitarian aid in the Rohingya refugee camps. Through our research, we delved into topics of Funding, International Law, Health interventions, Security, Culture and Religion, and Government Restrictions. Our findings will ultimately lead to policy recommendations for the organizations we collaborated with during the data collection phase and others in the humanitarian aid sphere, to create programs and interventions of sustainable empowerment for Rohingya refugee women.
