Profile bio

About Sam Allcock

I’m a product leader who believes that the heart of every product is its user experience. I thrive on building products that solve real customer problems which people love to use.I don’t know if anyone starts life as a Product Manager, and I am no exception. My dream since I can remember was always aerospace, planes, and flying. I wanted to be at the leading edge of innovation, designing and building the latest and greatest, so rather appropriately I went on to study Aerospace Systems Engineering with Pilot Studies and was officially on the path to pursuing my dream. After university, however, I wasn’t so sure. The timescales involved in designing and building aircraft span years, and while I loved flying, I wasn’t so sure I would love it as a job. I needed something faster-paced, that had more immediate impact on the lives of people. It would make for a better story if I had an epiphany, or if a wise old soul gave me some life-changing advice, but in reality, I just joined a startup tech company and product management found me. I started as a QA tester, and if anyone has worked in a startup before, you know that your role on paper is about 20% of what you actually do! I was a project manager, scrum master, automated tester, product owner, and this journey led me to product management, a perfect blend of creativity, collaboration, and rapid innovation.Data is my compass, guiding every decision with clear metrics and outcomes. It’s like using a GPS to navigate through product strategies—except it recalculates your route much faster!Leadership for me is about setting a strong vision backed by evidence, created by distilling a sea of data points into clear, actionable priorities. I think it’s important to lead both from the front by charting the course and from the back by creating conditions that allow my team to shine and excel. It's about being a beacon and a foundation simultaneously.I am deeply collaborative, believing that articulating intent and tackling challenges as a group not only enhances motivation, buy-in, and alignment but consistently yields superior results. By fostering a collaborative environment, we harness diverse perspectives to refine our products and strategies. When I’m not steering the product ship or having fun with data, you can find me in the skies flying or gliding, beneath the waves scuba diving, or serenading the sunset with my ukulele—embracing adventures as boundless as our product possibilities.Let’s make products that not only perform spectacularly but also bring a smile to the user's face!

* I was the first QA hired by the company, so was responsible for testing all new features being developed.* I started an initiative to automate the testing and came up with the processes surrounding that so that I could reduce the amount of testing that needed to happen at the end of each sprint and new tests were being added with each new feature.
