A move back to my roots geographically gave me the opportunity to revisit occupational therapy with physical health clients, working both in a small community hospital and in clients' own homes. Could I use my skills in coaching and behaviour change here in this setting? Yes I could! And I'm learnt lots of new skills whilst benefiting from working alongside new colleagues and clients with a new range of health concerns.

Weymouth & Portland Assertive Outreach Team

Blending OT, coaching and recovery approaches to enhance mental well-being for clients with severe and enduring mental health problems. I presented a paper at a national conference on using coaching approaches with this client group.

Following redundancy from the Condition Management Programme post I took a short term (seven week) redeployment position with this community mental health team which is focusing on strengthening the Recovery approach. Re-wrote team leaflet along Recovery principles (with colleague) and introduced self-management, positive psychology and Recovery interventions with clients. Very liberating for me to be able to integrate approaches from these areas with this client group.

A partnership project with NHS Dorset and DWP, enabling those on health benefits for reasons of physical or mental ill-health to better manage their health in order to improve confidence in ability to work. Crossed traditional physical/mental health boundaries, using coaching rather than traditional treatment.• Managed small team of health practitioners • Clinical lead for mental health issues • Mix of individual coaching and groupwork (psycho-educational modules) • Developed new module material focusing on well-being, using coaching and positive psychology interventions.• Developed several policies e.g. risk, drug & alcohol• Trained staff in theory and use of coaching approaches

Introduced OT to this team for people with severe and enduring mental health problems and associated difficulties eg substance misuse, homelessness, forensic history, unemployment. Focused on engagement and using strengths based interventions

In-patient community psychiatric units, Weymouth, (NHS Dorset)A development post re-introducing OT for inpatients, developing assessment, interventions and protocols as needed, also updated OT input for day hospital clients.
