Based within the Open Mental Health team, a subsect of the Community Mental Health team, supervised by a Clinical Psychologist. Duties include 1:1 therapeutic work (Compassionate Mind Training, Emotional Skills, Stabilisation, Brief CBT Interventions) facilitating groups (Emotional Skills and Compassionate Mind Training), risk assessments, referral screenings, psychometric testing where appropriate, case note reviews, and service evaluation.

Based across two wards; one low-secure male ward for learning disabilities; and a low-secure male ward. My main ward-based duties included assessments for mental health and risk of violence (HCR20s). It also included producing and evaluating care plans for recovery, insight, and therapeutic needs. I undertook 1:1 therapeutic interventions in anger management, anxiety, mindfulness, and CBT for psychosis. I also co-facilitated groups on my allocated wards in DBT, Drug and Alcohol, and Understanding Psychosis. I also helped to co-facilitate these groups across other male and female low/medium-secure wards.

The team and I have acted as a platform to communicate student concerns and satisfaction. We have attended regular meetings with Psychology department to discuss concerns and plans to tackle challenging issues on the course and for the wider commune. We have strived for course improvements and improved communication between the course leaders and students. Some of the challenges we have tried to tackle include providing a safe academic space for students during the pandemic, fees and teaching resources during a strike, marking discrepancies, and reduced social contact for students during COVID-19 and maintaining student wellbeing.

Marking assessments on 2nd and 3rd year Clinical modules (essays and exams). I have become familiar with calibration and moderation processes and have gained valuable experience in understanding the specific details of psychological theory and improved my own essay-writing repertoire. Our work has been deemed ‘excellent’ by external moderators.
