I completed my Master's Degree in Computer Science (specialization field: Computational Intelligence) at the University of Salerno (Università degli Studi di Salerno). During this experience I had the opportunity to work on several projects related to the Data Science field, such as:– My Master's thesis: Fake News Detection using Deep Learning techinques. The project was divided in two sub-projects; the goal of the first project was to scrape articles from the web, in order to obtain labelled datasets; to do that we extracted the articles marked as “unreliable” from various fact-checking websites (such as snopes.com, factcheck.org, etc...), then we extracted the “reliable” articles from sources with an high “truth” rank from mediabiasfactcheck.com; we then used additional datasets found on github and kaggle. The second sub-project consisted in creating, training and evaluating several neural network architectures (specifically, LSTM, CNN, HAN and Hierarchical-CNN) to solve the task of classifying the collected data.– A Convolutional Neural Network trained to recognize handwritten characters (letters andnumbers).– A Neural Network trained to recognize the section (such as Politics, Economy or Sport) of anews article using the title as input.– A Chatbot, which used Facebook’s Messenger API to communicate with the end user. It wasable to recommend articles to the user based on his/her preferences.– A news aggregator that sorted the articles based on their importance (which was calculatedusing clustering techniques). – A statistical analysis of the traffic generated by the visitors to a website I previously made.
