About Sam Major

I am an engineering physicist who seeks to understand exactly how the universe works. As a kid, I was a menace with a screwdriver, but (nearly) everything I disassembled functioned just as well or better once I was done with it. My curiosity continued to grow and led me to study mathematics and later the complex systems that drive the physics of the universe.My research began with publications on the effects of perturbations on bounded harmonic systems during my first undergraduate program. I later expanded upon this and investigated the effects of spherical perturbations on the spacetime curvature surrounding Reissner-Nordstrom black holes. My theoretical research is complemented by my technical and laboratory experience, including radiation detection, data analysis, large scale laser systems, and subtractive manufacturing.During my education at Colorado School of Mines, I have sought to expand my understanding not just of physics, but of in the intercultural and multifaceted nature of equity in STEM. Community outreach with school organizations including oSTEM and Orediggers Disability Activism & Community provided me with perspective on how to improve diversity, promote inclusivity, and ensure equity.With a variety of theoretical, technical, and interpersonal skills, I am looking for a position where I can conduct or assist in physics research while fostering an inclusive and equitable environment.
