Work involved the management, safety, co-ordination and responsibility of crews, playing an active role in both leader and team member capacity in a variety of situations. As a navigational officer, I kept watches on a daily basis in a variety of conditions as per master’s standing orders. Off duty responsibilities involved the proper management of documents and portfolios vital for the safe and commercial operation of the ship, inspection and maintenance of safety equipment carried on board, the preparation of pre-arrival and arrival papers for a multitude of different ports alongside dealing and conversing with port authorities on behalf of the master.Other responsibilities include the handling of the ships bonded store, ensuring that food stuffs are within expiry dates and that money accounts are in good order.
