This internship introduced me to working at a professional academy. Through this experience, I had the opportunity to work with age groups ranging from u6-u14 where I lead different types of sessions ranged from technical, drill, IDP, SSG, and possession.

Within this role I was given the opportunity to work with talented 1st team players as well as Welsh internationals that competed in the FA women’s national league and FA cup. Within this role I supported the training of the team through delivery of a variety of different practice types. I further supported the team through warm ups at both home and away games as well as tactical analysis off the pitch.

During the summer months, I was given the opportunity to work abroad in the USA to coach at a private academy based in Cederberg. This role had me working with a variety of different age groups from boys u13s to women’s u23s. Time was mostly spent with the u23s team, here I was managing training sessions as well as tactics and decision making on match days. This experience gave me insight and experience into how a private academy based in America functions on a day to day basis. The knowledge and experience I have gained on this placement, has been invaluable and taught me many further skills that I have used in coaching other teams.

During my one at the club, my role was to delivery high quality sessions to the first team as well as support the athletic development of players. I would further support this team assisting and often leading the team on match days.

This role was maintained on a voluntary basis during my first year of university. This team underwent various changes throughout the year starting of as Cyncoed LFC and then inter grating with pontypridd football club to become their senior women’s team. During my time spent in this role, I worked alongside the first team at the club to produce high quality analysis conducted around our own performance as well as an overview of the oppositions performance. Along side this I would support the team in the delivery of training and match day prep.

This was a combined role as both a student and part time employee where I studied various subjects around teaching in sport as well as working in a school. During my time in this role, my responsibilities varied from organising after school sports clubs, supporting the learning of students in various academic lessons, organising sports teams and leading these teams in external sporting events, supporting the welfare and care of students in the school, and finally ensuring proper care was taken with equipment on its day to day usage. Throughout this role I faced many various challenges, the main being working through Covid-19 as a key worker.
