An internal opportunity came up to move to the Android team within the same company. Although I was happy and excelling where I was as a .NET Developer, I felt that I was ready for a new challenge and another steep learning curve. As an Android user and an app fan, I felt this new role more closely aligned with me personally. Also, the opportunity arose during a time where TopCashback were looking to greatly enhance their mobile products, and I wanted to contribute towards this wider business aim and also to enjoy all the momentum surrounding it.

My enthusiasm for learning and overcoming challenges as a Junior .NET Developer enabled me to progress to a .NET Developer level fairly quickly.

After my bootcamp, I began working as a Junior .NET Developer right away. Going from knowing very little about code just 6 months prior to coding professionally was a very steep learning curve, and during that first year at TopCashback I (voluntarily) put in many extra hours just to stay afloat. After the first year, the steep curve tapered off to a gentle slope, and I realised that I’d found my “forever career” not in spite of but actually because of the level of academic engagement required.

I completed a coding bootcamp, with the intention of becoming a Software Developer. The Developer Pathway is split into 4 modules: core, back-end, front-end, and a final project.

I was kept on in the same office after my internship, engaging in a number of administrative activities, from designing the timetable for the Economics department to managing the daily administrative activities for the Social Anthropology department.

Following my graduation, I was accepted onto the Manchester Graduate Talent internship programme. During this time I was engaged in a variety of projects, with a special focus on working with the Careers Service and our student groups to put on an assortment of events and workshops.
