I am a project officer at the Mansfield hub for the government programme Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Collaborative Outreach Programme (DANCOP) which is aimed at raising aspirations for young people. We want to encourage more young people to go on to higher education and have developed a programme of activities to deliver within a cohort of schools within the two counties. I manage a portfolio of schools, regularly communicating to teachers and advisers as well as delivering engaging and innovative sessions to the learners at their schools.

I was a temporary support worker for young people in care at a number of care homes. I spent most of my time at a care home for young people with autism and social, emotional behavioural difficulties. I assisted with day to day duties such as cooking and cleaning and spent time with the young people doing activities that they enjoyed. I also went on outings with the young people, to shopping centres, bowling and parks. I made sure they got to school on time and had meetings with the other support workers to discuss any issues that had occurred during the day or evening before. I also did a few waking nights shifts, making sure that the young people were ok during the night, reassuring any who didn't sleep well. Whilst I was there I also filled out the days records and reports, making sure that all procedures were followed.

I worked as a assistant programme leader on the NCS programme for The Challenge during summer 2017. This is a government funded personal and social development programme which includes teenagers aged 16-17 going on outdoor activity residentials and delivering a social action project to support their local community. My role involved supporting the programme leader to lead the young people and other staff members. I was responsible for behaviour management and pastoral care for the 60 young people as well as the development of the senior mentors. I delivered sessions, dealt with any behavioural issues and supported individuals with special educational needs.

I was a learning mentor for students with special educational needs at Nottingham Academy secondary school. I was based at the Sneinton Boulevard site and worked with years 7 and 8. I supported in lessons, making sure that the students engaged and participated in the lessons and dealt with any behavioural or pastoral issues that occurred. I delivered 1:1 interventions in literacy and numeracy and supported those with dyslexia. I also delivered 1:1 and small group interventions for students with autism helping them cope with their anxiety, social skills and the pressures of being in mainstream education.

I worked for The Challenge on the NCS programme as a senior mentor and support worker for 3 consecutive summers (seasonal contract) from 2014 to 2016. I supported a team of young people aged 16-17 whilst they took part in residentials and community activities during their school holidays. I delivered sessions, dealt with behavioural and pastoral issues and reported any concerns to the programme leader. As a support worker I worked 1:1 with a young person with learning difficulties to make sure he fully integrated into the team. I also supported the senior mentor and the rest of the team.

As a learning support assistant in a secondary school, I supported students with special educational needs and learning difficulties. I supported both in and outside of lessons, helping them academically and pastorally. I was a key-worker for 6 students whom I had regular meetings with and regular communication with their parents to update them on their child's progress within school. I also delivered speech and language therapy, social skills and Chill Club (a psychological anxiety reducing programme) to small groups on a weekly basis.
