Nserc Undergraduate Research Assistant
• Received an NSERC USRA award to work in a professor’s group researching controlled masonry rocking systems.• Gained valuable hands-on experience working with concrete, steel, and masonry and learned their practical applications in a construction setting and material properties by running various tests on those materials.• Responsibly followed safety protocol in the lab (similar to a construction site) and COVID-19 regulations.• Developed a website for the research group with no prior experience showing my ability to learn quickly.• Tasked with creating a spreadsheet with Excel Macros which calculated the wind and seismic loads for a building in various locations across Canada while the lab was not open at the beginning of this summer due to Covid-19.• Showed my ability complete work independently by teaching myself parts of the National Building Code and a fourth-year steel structures course to successfully complete this project.
