About Sam George
I grew up in a Royal Air Force family, following my father to various postings in the UK and Europe. As such I have an ingrained ability to adapt quickly to changing environments. Settling in Northumberland I have worked for 18 years in the care industry. Firstly qualifying as a crèche worker, then by gaining a CACHE level 3 in childcare learning and development, working in childcare settings with children living with additional needs, requiring 1-1 support. I have managed an SENDI inclusive holiday club with support from the Surestart initiative - liasing with parents, carers, and professional bodies, operated as part of a team within a nursery setting, and worked at satellite centres to run playgroups, crèches, and after school clubs. Leaving childcare, I moved into specialised community care, working 1-1, or in small tight knit teams, with adults and children whose daily lives are impacted by significant cognitive and physical disability - both congenital and acquired. Each condition requires a flexible, caring skillset, an ability to problem solve, anticipate, and adapt at a moment's notice. I have learned to understand the needs of individuals, where communication is vastly altered. Familiarity with Makaton, eye gaze technology, blinking and facial communication, and an in depth understanding of the need to adhere to routine for individuals with altered cognitive capacity.I enjoy the challenge of learning new skills, with a penchant for learning new languages and expanding my understanding of the languages I know. Now that my daughters are grown, I am interested in entering a new field, using all my skills and travel knowledge to fuel a new career, helping others to explore new cultures, create experiences, and build memories with family and friends, regardless of ability. I thoroughly enjoy the research for travel options, accomodations, the search for places of interest to broaden my knowledge, reaching out into the broader global community to gain insight into facilities for friends with additional or medical support needs, to ensure that they can enjoy the same high quality, immersive experience as any other traveller. I am a story teller, weaving colourful tales to engage with people. I thrive on entertaining readers of my holiday blogs, by telling the story of a country, place, or attraction through a comedic monologue. Expanding horizons and bringing the unknown to life.I am a little quirky and I enjoy bringing a smile to others.
