This role saw me work on the Labour Party National Policy Forum Consultations for 2020 and 2021. For this, I designed and implemented a detailed social media strategy to promote and engage party members and the general public with the consultation, while concomitantly translating normal policy roundtable meetings into online equivalents. I also created and oversaw a comprehensive training plan, leading on sessions that educated members on the policy development process. These were a great success, and we had over 15,000 people register for the eight events in 2021. I also continued to liaise with key stakeholders in the new Shadow Cabinet, as well as in the Trade Unions, to maximise their involvement with the process.

Due to my parliamentary experience I was seconded to the Parliamentary Labour Party team to help with the briefing of Shadow Cabinet Members, including both written and oral briefings, on a range of political issues. I completed this task while maintaining my responsibilities in my permanent role.

Due to my performance as a Policy Development Officer and knowledge of party policy, I was given the concomitant brief of Policy Adviser to the Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland. In this role, I briefed the Shadow Minister regarding policy and parliamentary business, and prepared responses and questions for him in the Chamber. This has further augmented my research and policy development skills, while strengthening my understanding of the intricacies of government.

During this role I developed and created a number of policies, which were adopted by the party, liaised with various Shadow Ministers and their Political Advisers, and contributed to the writing of the Scottish Labour Party Manifesto. I developed an excellent rapport with several external stakeholder organisations, including Trade Unions, Charities, Civil Servants and Local Government Associations. I was steadily given more responsibility including the drafting and dissemination of press releases as well as the briefing of senior Labour Party Politicians, including the Leader of the Opposition and the Shadow Chancellor, regarding policy issues, as well as creating and developing large policy projects.

I helped to install doors, wardrobes and other bespoke furniture across London.
