Hello!I learned at a young age that I wanted to create, innovate, and design. A lot of my childhood was spent building things out of Legos. As I got older I got involved in competitive robotics, FIRST robotics and Vex Robotics. I spent 6 years in these programs through middle and high school, this is where I first learned that I wanted to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. Throughout my time in robotics, most of my effort was focused on doing the absolute best I could and making my team as competitive as possible. What I didn't realize, is that I was learning a lot about electro-mechanical systems and controls. After graduating high school and starting college, I found that I really enjoyed learning about engineering, as well as helping others to learn. This has become a large theme of my time at Michigan Tech. While studying mechanical engineering I have started working as an engineering learning center coach, helping students when they have questions about several core courses: statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and mechanics of materials. I have also joined the Engineering Ambassadors program, creating STEM presentations to inspire K-12 students to pursue a STEM career. Everything in high school robotics and my education at Michigan Tech has inspired me to pursue a career in electro-mechanical systems, with a particular interest in 3D printing and developing 3D printing technology. Mechanical Engineering covers this very well, but I am also looking into electrical engineering and computer science courses to extend my knowledge to other areas. When I am not working or learning, I like to spend a lot of time outside. I have really fallen in love with running and short distance triathlons, as well as mountain biking and some winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding (both of which are great at Tech). I also enjoy designing and 3D printing small projects. Finding things that I use which I can design and print myself is a lot of fun.If you want to take a look at some personal and group projects that I have made, take a look at my portfolio website: www.samjager.me

For the summer of 2022, I worked under Dr. Ezra Bar-Ziv on a project to recover waste plastics and biogenic material from municipal solid waste. Over the course of this internship I was responsible for design of test equipment for lab scale experiments which involved fluid cooling and mixing. I was also responsible for testing pre and post-treatment methods of municipal solid waste for use in our project.
