Hailing from retail and office, I grew tired of office life and clock watching all day, so I ventured into the world of construction.I began site life as a landscaper working on new builds - turning gardens into green, grassy havens, battling muck and slop with an unruly rotavator and then taming the land with my trusty rake. I could be seen planting shrubs, trees and flowers; breathing life into the street scene.Later, I was placed in charge of a maintenance team, tending to show homes and keeping POS areas trimmed and tidy using petrol mowers, strimmers and the formidable Ferris - lovingly known as “Big Red”, she could chew through anything! The neat freak in me thrived in this role. I was then given a chance and found my way into groundworking, where I continue to work today. I began here on the finishing end, learning how to lay paving slabs, prepare paths and driveways, spread tarmac and install edgings and kerbs. I have more recently been sent to work on the front end, learning all about footings, block and beams, preparing and pouring concrete floors, internal and external drainage, service duct installation and more! I also get to handle the likes of forward tipping dumpers, road rollers and occasionally I get to swing around in a 360 excavator.I thoroughly enjoy my role and being a woman “on the tools”, and I hope to progress my skills in this field - working outside and hands-on is a far different scene to my old jobs, and I absolutely love it.
