I am the Executive Producer of "Philadelphia: The Great Experiment", a documentary film on the epic history of Philadelphia being produced by my production firm, History Making Productions. Our series is viewable on 6abc/WPVI-TV and is available at www.historyofphilly.com.My career has been unusual and diverse.It began in 1974 when I returned to Philadelphia from graduate school and worked at the Philadelphia Partnership, a business and civic organization. There I worked on research projects monitoring both the finances and capital projects of the City of Philadelphia. I also began my political career working in the campaigns of Rev. William H. Gray, III (U.S. Congress), State Sen. Louis G. Hill (Mayor) and Congressman William J. Green, Jr. (U.S. Senate).In 1976 I joined up with G. Edward DeSeve who had started Public Financial Management, Inc. The firm specialized in state and local government finance concentrating on jurisdictions with serious fiscal challenges as well as capital formation requirements. In 1979, when ed left to join the Green Administration as Finance Director, I took over PFM and served as its CEO and later Co-CEO (with F. John White) until I left the firm in 1994. During my tenure as the firm's leader, we grew from five professionals to 200 and expanded from one office to 16 locations throughout the U.S. By the time I retired from PFM it had become the nation's leading and most diversified municipal financial and investment advisory firm.In the years since leaving PFM, I have run for public office (Governor of Pennsylvania and Mayor of Philadelphia), started a venture capital firm, helped manage and develop a successful Indian gaming casino in Northern California, served on the boards of directors of public and private companies and non-profits, served as CEO for Greater Philadelphia First, developed a business consulting and advisory practice, and volunteered as a leader for several major Jewish organizations.
