SOLID is a multidisciplinary student team from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) dedicated to advancing sustainable energy solutions. Their primary focus is on developing iron-based hydrogen storage systems, offering a safe and efficient alternative for large-scale energy storage. The team's innovative approach utilizes the steam-iron process, where steam reacts with iron to produce hydrogen and rust. The generated hydrogen can be extracted and utilized for various applications, while the resulting rust is regenerated back into iron. This cyclical process enables hydrogen to be stored and transported safely under atmospheric conditions. SOLID's efforts have led to the development of a proof-of-concept system capable of producing hydrogen from iron, demonstrating the viability of their technology. Their ongoing projects aim to scale up this system towards industrial demonstration prototypes, contributing to the broader adoption of iron-based hydrogen storage solutions. This is where I will aid the project by providing the necessary funding, materials and partnerships.
