Senior Foundation Phase Operations Manager
Senior House Parent
At Manchester City Football Academy, I work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide expert care of a consistently high standard to 20 full-time residents, aged 16-19 years old. The wellbeing of the residents is of paramount importance and is our number one priority regardless of the unique challenges and pressures that come with the territory of being a full-time, young, professional footballer. There is a great level of diversity throughout the residents with regards to both nationality and background, which creates a challenging yet intriguing culture. This role sits within the Performance Lifestyle and Player Support department which enables me to deliver sessions to Academy players, linking with external providers to ensure the needs of professional sportsmen are met as well as contributing to other aspects of the world leading Academy, including event management and operational logistics, both match day and tours overseas.
Elite Development Squad (U23) Operational Lead
Due to Covid-19 providing disruption to my formal role at the Manchester City Academy, a secondment opportunity arose for me to assist with the increased demands of operational support for the U23 squad. Building on my established understanding and experience of the high performance, elite environment, this consisted of creating and establishing relationships with opposing clubs, being the lead for all operational functions including transport throughout the UK and abroad, kit and accommodation, whilst linking together all additional support around the team. My responses ensured the Premier League 2 fixtures and training programme could continue. My key relationships were with the Professional Phase Operational Manager, the U23 Lead Coach and First Team management staff.
Assistant Houseparent
Undertaking various duties to provide for the safety and good discipline, happiness and pastoral wellbeing of all boarders. Further to this, I established a positive working relationship with a variety of stakeholders, including students, parents, guardians and teaching staff. My duties ranged from academic support, through to coaching the Ladies’ Rugby team. My duties lay mostly with the pastoral development of the 58 girls in my care, yet in addition to this there was a focus on their personal growth moving forward. I attended many CPD events in this role, focusing on matters ranging on e-Safety, through to LGBTQ+ awareness training.
Vice President Sports & Athletic Union President
I was elected Athletic Union President after enjoying a successful and inspiring year as Chairman of Cardiff University RFC. In my role as AU President my tasks varied from allocating funding from a £75k budget to over 60 sports clubs, to leading the organisation of the annual Welsh Varsity event. As an Elected Officer of the Students’ Union, I was a Director and Trustee of the Company and Charity which has an annual turnover of over £7 million. I was elected National Student Chair of BUCS Wales, operating alongside the Staff Chair representing the region at British meetings and conferences.
Gap Tutor
After completing my secondary education I secured an 11-month position as a Gap Tutor in Kings’ College, Auckland, alongside a rugby contract for Auckland University RFC. I was the sole coach of a rugby team in the winter months, alongside playing for Auckland University RFC Premiers. This taught me a lot about rugby on a global scale, not just on the field but off it; the culture throughout the New Zealand game truly opened my eyes to something I thought I knew so much about, which was a valuable life lesson. As I came straight from education into this high performing environment, both at the school and the rugby club, from a young age I have learnt the importance of maintaining a professional and mature manner at all times.
