About Sam Ruark

With over 25 years of work experience in the field of sustainability, I am passionate about advancing the environmental, social, and economic well-being of our communities. As the Executive Director of Green Built Alliance, a non-profit organization that promotes green building and clean energy in Western North Carolina, I led a team of dedicated staff and contractors who deliver impactful green building, energy efficiency, and solar energy projects and programs. I am committed to fostering collaboration, innovation, and education among diverse stakeholders, and to creating a more resilient and equitable future for our world.With Green Built Alliance I provided strategic direction, financial management, and program development of the organization, which has a budget of over $1 million and serves more than 1,350 members and partners. Some of our key programs include Green Built Homes, which certifies energy-efficient and healthy homes; Appalachian Offsets, which funds local clean energy projects; Energy Savers Network, which provides energy upgrades to low-income households; and Blue Horizons Project, which supports the transition to renewable energy in Asheville and Buncombe County. I also manage the fundraising aspects of the organization, such as securing grants, sponsors, and donors. I leverage my skills in strategic planning, staff recruitment, training and management, project management, public relations, and meeting facilitation to ensure the success and sustainability of our projects and programs.
