I am interested in critical theory, particularly auto-theoretical memoirs by authors such as Maggie Nelson, Jackie Wang, and Paul Preciado. I take an interest in subcultures, prisons, aesthetic/anti-aesthetics, and using uncommon ground as a way to understand queerness in a hegemonic mainstream culture. I am also interested in poverty aesthetics and poverty environmentalism. Preferring the lived queer experience as a way to generate theory, rather than fiction or popular media, I am interested in queer phenomenology and material feminism. I am currently looking to research the "self-help" genre as a legitimate literary genre to problematize the rampant individualism of "pulling yourself up by the bootstraps" and using formulaic processes rather than critiquing the systems at play.
