Management trainee path into James Jones & Sons has provided the company with fantastic new talent into management roles across the company over the last 20+ years by focusing on 'on-the-job' learning, producing managers with real hands-on experience of the production environment as well as giving them a full view of the company's growing operations.Currently based at the Mosstodloch sawmill focused on running the main production facility and gaining understanding of decisions around the main saw line, how product flows into secondary processing and management of resources to ensure maximum output efficiency.Completed two other placements two date:Mosstodloch sawmill with a full introduction to every aspect of production on the site, looking at material flow from initial intake of raw materials, primary processing, value-adding secondary processes and product despatch to customers. Managed the 6 timber drying kilns at Mosstodloch while on site.Kirriemuir sawmill focusing on strategic operations improvements with a 2-5 year plan for investment in operational efficiencies.

Rosyth

Member of the Project Controls team responsible for major sub-contracts in the Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) aircraft carrier project at Rosyth, working as part of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA).Working on the second ship in the QEC program (HMS Prince of Wales). Learning from experience and continual improvements to the baseline of the first ship (HMS Queen Elizabeth) are key concepts in our team and the project as a whole.Part of the major subcontracts project controls team responsible for measuring earned value, tracking costs, risk & opportunities, measuring progress and determining the overall position of each contract. Personally implementing project controls & governance processes for ‘procurable packages’ worth ~£6.5m, while working within project controls team to cover a scope worth in excess of £750m.Emphasis within the team’s work on continual review and improvement of processes.Continually liaising with production, planning, sub-contractors and central governance/PMO to ensure smooth running of the project by identifying then resolving blockers and issues.Working directly with BAE, Babcock, MoD and subcontractor staff throughout the ACA to deliver the ship on time, on budget and to the highest quality.

Lockerbie Sawmill

Involved in developing a system of best practice for new computerised maintenance management software at state-of-the-art Lockerbie sawmill.System managed work requests, work orders, purchasing, spare parts and site assets.

Responsibilities include safe, clean operation of leisure centre including pool, other wet-side activities and dry-side activities. Ensure safety of all staff and customers in building, requires effective leadership of team of lifeguards, teachers, and any other staff on shift. Experience teaching children from 3-16 and adults in groups and one-on-one.

6 Week Summer Student Placement in Construction TeamProject managed large-scale renewable energy projects including consenting, planning, design, construction and commissioning.Worked with clients and contractors during feasibility studies, planning conditions discharge, tender process and progress meetings.Primary project manager during placement on Feed-in-Tariff single-turbine project for capital investment client. Required full due diligence, certification and documentation to bankable specification.Worked in detail on Health and Safety management on site, CDM regulations, planning applications and environmental considerations at all stages of project.Gained technical experience from design & certification process for piled turbine foundations on unfavourable ground.
