I am responsible for the water and drainage reactive business unit with a head count of 50 operational staff. This consists of 4 Supervisors and 46 field crew.

I oversee a team of 23 people consisting of 20 water technicians, 2 Maintenance Planners and a Meters Team Leader. The business unit is tasked with replacing 10,000 domestic meter replacements and 1000 commercial meters annually, alongside all planned network maintenance such as valves/ hydrants and new mains connections.

As Senior Foreman I reported to the General Manager, Oversee site-based contracts country wide for the New Zealand business. I managed a team of 15 who specialise in trenchless pipe rehabilitation. Alongside the pipe relining team, support crews carry out pipe cleaning, CCTV inspections, civil construction of Manholes/Pipelines and other ancillary works. During my time with Interflow I have helped to build a stable workforce through quality people recruitment. I was responsible for project profitability whilst providing transparent financial overviews to the General Manager. Alongside the Project Manager I was responsible for the scheduling of work programmes, across multiple projects spanning across the country at any one time. I strived to instill an exceptional health and safety culture, prioritising the welfare of my staff.

In July 2015, Downer secured the largest water maintenance contract in New Zealand. I transitioned over to Downer from Lend Lease as a Wastewater Supervisor responsible for the Eastern Region. This being a new contract I encountered numerous challenges in the initial set up of processes along with the training of new team members starting out in the industry. This was both exciting and challenging, learning new systems and driving Downers key core values as a company. I was heavily involved in the strict supervision of Health and Safety conduct, building and guiding my newly formed team towards our goal in providing excellent service to our customers. I worked closely with senior management to ensure we met our Zero Harm Policy which forms a large part of our contract obligations with Watercare, building confidence and exceeding our client expectations.

Initially I began my career with Lend Lease as a Service Technician, running my own flushing unit responding to emergency sewer overflows, pollution incidents and other key scheduled maintenance duties. Within two months of working for the company I was offered the position of Team Leader in the Wastewater Service Department. Servicing over 300,000 customers in the West Auckland region I managed a team of Drain layers and Wastewater Technicians. I was responsible for overseeing work and more complex issues alongside managing health and safety through on site audits resolving any issues that arose. I represented Lend Lease when liaising with the Client Watercare and Auckland Council. Other duties included guiding employees and sub-contractors to ensure a high quality of workmanship and strict health and safety standards whilst coordinating my team members daily workloads.

Being a recently formed company working on multiple contracts within Australia and overseas, I was able to assist in the training of new employees in leak detection methods. My experience and knowledge of water infrastructure in The United Kingdom enabled me to bring new ideas and recommendations forward. I worked on the Sydney Water contract which involved leak detection surveys for approximately 7,000 kilometres of distribution mains annually. I also worked in Western Australia on a project for Water Corporation. My duties included leak detection ground surveys, confirmation and quantifying of leaks along with pipe locating. I responded to emergencies on-call assisting repair gangs with the pinpointing of leaks. I set up Pressure and flow loggers to capture key network data to later present to clients.

As the Lead Technician I worked alongside a team of contractors and over a 12 month period contributed towards the West Region of Severn Trent Water achieving its lowest leakage levels in history. I was appointed as trainer on the Modus trailer which was used to chlorinate and de-chlorinate water mains. I was tasked with training over 20 Distribution Service Technicians in its use and safe operation. I worked annualised hours shift patterns which included nights, weekends and out of hours call in. Regular response to emergencies such as burst water mains and customer loss of supply. I had to react quickly and safely taking the lead and assisting gangs with repairs and water main isolations. This could be extremely intense and difficult at times but gave me great satisfaction when a job was completed and the customer’s water supply restored. During this role I also obtained my Diploma in Water Engineering and Leakage detection certificate as well as various in house training courses.Key responsibilities:• Locating and pinpointing leaks using correlaters and ground microphones. • Pipe tracing and locating using CAT and JENNY.• Step test planning, undertaking and analysing.• Servicing and repairing pressure reducing valves and flow meters.• Water quality sampling.• Pressure and Flow logging.• District metered area design and implementation.

In May 2010 I secured the role of Senior Network Technician. I built strong working relationships with all my colleagues as well as external agencies including Environmental Health Officers and local Councils. I began my career at Severn Trent Water as an apprentice working alongside experienced team members and became a valued member of the team working as a Waste Water Technician. During this role I gained a vast amount of experience in the sewerage network including sewer cleaning, working in confined spaces, Sewerage pumping station maintenance. I dealt mainly with customer issues, reacting to incidents and operational emergencies i.e. sewer flooding, pollution incidents and pump station alarms which included fault finding and carrying out repairs. I carried out proactive maintenance through inspections and CCTV surveys of Sewers and Storm Drains. I also obtained a National Vocational Qualification level 2 in Sewerage maintenance.
