Experience in developing policies, standards and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions provided the work clearly shows applied specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronics systems/equipment, electrical power distribution systems, emergency backup power systems, power conditioning systems or HVAC systems. Experience that provides a basic knowledge of the principles of electronics, mathematics, computers, aeronautics, or related areas, and/or an understanding, both theoretical and practical, of automated systems operations, integration, management, and maintenance. Experience may have been gained in one or more occupations including, but not limited to computer specialist, electronics technician, telecommunications specialist, engineer, etc. possess experience as technicians, instructors, inspectors or mechanics (civilian or military) which shows progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory and of characteristics, function, operation and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment, electrical power distribution systems, emergency backup power systems, power conditioning systems, or HVAC systems. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, varieties of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic/electrical-mechanical formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing and/or instructing on the above listed systems/equipment, or similar functions.

Aviation Electronics Technician (AT) is a US Navy enlisted rating or job specialty. Aviation Electronics Technicians wear the specialty mark of a winged helium atom. Aviation Electronics Technicians (Intermediate) perform intermediate level maintenance on aviation electronic components supported by conventional and automatic test equipment, including repair of Weapons Replaceable Assemblies (WRA) and Shop Replaceable Assemblies (SRA) and perform test equipment calibration/repair and associated test bench maintenance.[1] Aviation Electronics Technicians (Organizational) perform organizational level maintenance on aviation electronics systems, to include: communications, radar, navigation, antisubmarine warfare sensors, electronic warfare, data link, fire control and tactical displays with associated equipment.Different types -There are currently two types of AT's:[2] Intermediate (I-level) and Organizational (O-level). However, their duties are significantly different, and I-level and O-level ATs take different advancement exams, as if they were different rates.I-level technicians work on the individual printed circuit boards within an actual component such as a radio. They are the technicians that connect the component to a test bench to simulate an aircraft, and troubleshoot and repair the equipment. In some instances the technician will not repair specific circuit card assemblies (CCAs); these CCAs will either go to Depot level or back to the original manufacturer for repair. O-level technicians troubleshoot various discrepancies with the use of multimeters and avionics test equipment to locate faults within the aircraft. An O-level AT will determine if the discrepancy that the aircrew reported is an aircraft-wiring problem or a system problem. If the problem is determined to be an assembled component of a system, the assembly will be removed and turned in to AIMD for repair.
