Modern production vehicles have a variety of sensors that help them perceive the environment around them and wireless communication methods are being developed that allows vehicles to share their sensor data with one another such as vehicle to vehicle (V2V) and vehicle to everything (V2X) communications. I am working on methods that fuse sensor data from multiple vehicles to create a collaborative perception of the vehicle's environment. One specific problem I am focusing on is collaborative object detection; each vehicle can detect a set of objects using its own sensors but there must be a consensus for which objects were detected by multiple vehicles and which objects were not, so that every vehicle in the connected vehicle environment can be aware of the presence of all the objects. I leverage various machine learning and computer vision algorithms to create a novel framework that aims to solve this problem. Show less

The main aspect of this internship was focused on learning how to use semiconductor yield analysis tools. I aided the software development team as the company transitioned from using dataPOWER to Galaxy Examinator Pro as their yield analysis software; I did extensive software testing and provided support to engineers relating to these software tools. I also tested, installed, and upgraded other software programs as well as monitoring the production servers. The project I worked on consisted of writing MATLAB code for a computer simulation of a liver with iron-overload disorder. The focus of this project was improving the speed and efficiency of the code. I changed many of the main scripts of the code into functions; along with this I also changed many of the structure data types into matrices and heavily used user defined MATLAB functions into C using the MEX library. These changes helped to significantly speed up the simulation. I have also altered the loop structure to reuse hard to generate random data and decrease the amount of data that must be sent over the network when run on distributed platforms such as USC’s High Powered Computing Cluster (HPCC). Other tasks included developing a new simulation file that supports non-instantaneous RF pulses to more realistically model how the scanner excites tissue and rewriting a sphere packing function that generates the simulated liver tissue to be faster and more efficient.
