Responsible for Tooling, Automation, Machine and Facilities Maintenance departments.Tooling – Manage >90 active molds for PM, repairs, upgrades, spares acquisition and tool replacement plan. Select vendors, prepare RFQ’s, develop customer quotes with PM and manage technical details. Automation – Manage 18+ assembly machines, new machine builds and several inhouse refurbishments.Implement and refine manufacturing processes by applying continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles to all areas of production.

Design, develop and implement automation systems for plastics manufacturing. Managed build for:• Fully automatic assembly machine with 360 degree vision in-line with molding machine.• Semi automatic machine capable of running multiple components totaling over 200 part numbers.• Semi automatic machine with multiple laser welding systems for solar industry• Fully automatic side entry robot system to remove parts from molding machine• Refurbishment of several machines in-house including: o Identify needed upgrades o Cost components and labor o Prepare customer quote o Perform mechanical design of improvements o Perform interface wiring of systems including safety systems o Program new PLC’s and HMI’s for improved machine operation, diagnostics and efficiency tracking.Specify gantry and 6 axis robotics systems for injection molding machines.Specifically:• Justify and deploy first 6 axis robot in facility used on IML cell phone production line. Robot integration performed in-house to reduce initial cost. Responsible for overall cell design, robot specification, interface to machine, design of auxiliary robot circuits and end effectors. Redeploy robot twice on new projects. Deployment on over-molding job resulted in 120% increase in production and 30% reduction in scrap.• Specify robot systems and design EOAT for many difficult applications including off center, 2 shot molds, intermediate mold open systems and others. Complete machine design and buildPick and place machine assembling two medical components at a 60 ppm rate. Perform complete mechanical design. Copley Servo Tube technology was used for high speed motions. Assemble all mechanical components for machine and write PLC and operator interface programs. Develop manuals and machine documentation. Deliver machine to customer and conduct customer training.
