I analyse how meaning is made in culture and brands, uncovering the underlying messages that motivate and move people. From a background in media and culture studies and wide experience of project management and retail, I apply rigorous research practice to identify spaces for tangible, targeted innovation.I specialise in media and communications sectors, and investigating the semiotics of retail space and consumer electronics product design.I have a PhD in media studies from the University of Nottingham. The thesis developed the sub-field of media industry studies by considering the digital television industry in Britain as a semiotic ecology comprising branding, promotion, content and technology design. It gave the first detailed account of important developments in television brands like the launch of Sky Atlantic and BBC Four's establishment of foreign language drama as a prime-time favourite. The work involved close engagement with media industry professionals, and nurtured my strong commitment to the linking of academic, commercial and public perspectives.
