I lead lean six sigma improvement projects using the DMAIC and DMEDI/DFLSS methodologies. Projects include cost reduction on current products (8% with clear ramp up plan to 25% as production increases), scrap reduction (23% to 1.7%), 5S setup and auditing, and customer focused new product development (corrosion protection).Tools I use on a regular basis are Capability Analysis, MSA/Gage R&R, ANOVA, Regression, Design of Experiment (DOE), Poka Yoke (mistake proofing), Statistical Process Control (SPC).I am also the lead manufacturing/process engineer in the machine shop where I help transition products from design to reality by reviewing designs for ease of manufacture, identifying tooling requirements for new products, designing and fabricating holding fixtures for machining operations, and troubleshooting machine failures.

Interior new product development and launch are my areas of responsibility. Duties include developing detailed manufacturing plans, determining tooling requirements, and making design recommendations to optimize assembly and manufacturability. Other responsibilities include managing tooling authorizations for interiors, reviewing engineering drawings and supplier requested design changes, and providing training material to the plants for new product implementation.

My duties included designing structural components, GD&T review and updates to side extenders and roof fairings, coordinating validation testing with the company’s Technical Center, working with suppliers to implement new products, and creating detailed part and assembly drawings. While working on the side extenders and roof fairing, I evaluated dimensional schemes at the system and component level, and proposed changes to improve dimensional capability. These changes implemented prior to product launch and have had no quality issues.I was also heavily involved with water leak testing. I spent a large amount of time from 8/1/12 to 11/2/12 in the Chillicothe, OH factory troubleshooting water leaks and establishing root cause for all new occurrences. During my time at the plant I also took part in a variety of other activities including process audits, product quality investigations, and troubleshooting factory issue.
