Qa Technician

Until the unfortonate cancellation of their GaaS title - Hyenas - I took the opportunity to join Creative Assembly as I am a great fan of the studio and their games, being taken on with a particular interest in my background and experience. I was chosen to take on the role of becoming the stakeholder in crashes and stability for the Hyenas project, as well as joining the platform team due to my previous experience with current generation games consoles. In this role I supported and taught others how to use development consoles and associated tools such as target managers and XDKs. I then became the owner of all crashes taking place in development builds, with my mentor moving to become the live release cooridnator and focus his attentions there, though I still supported the triaging, bugging and assignment/tracking of these issues as well, also taking on his role as the embedded QA within the network team. In this time I have gained a deep understanding of callstacks and logging (Aided by my development background) and have taught these skills and the processes I implemented to 3 different external team members, who became my support as my role grew ever broader. My role also covered the creation of weekly reports on the stability of the project with all associated metrics, as well as having a guiding role of the automation and integration of services such as Elastic Search, Jira and Backtrace.

Senior Qa Tester

Wyboston, England, United Kingdom

In my time at Universally Speaking, I started out as a QA Tester on a casual work contract. Due to my previous experience, quick uptake of information and habitual guidance and support of my colleagues I quickly became a Senior QA Tester by July. In this role, I continued with my duties as a tester but also got more involved in managing testers, approving bug entry, regressions, etc. and writing documentation as well as taking new starters under my wing and teaching them how to excel in their duties. Following this, I was interviewed and approved to take a Lead QA Tester position. To this end, I began managing my own projects, initially with support from an established lead; writing End of Day reports, organising my own teams and getting involved in decisions relating to our test plans and best practices. However, due to the nature of the company contracting for developers as a third-party team, my contract was not finalised. Despite this, I continue to work in a greater capacity and focus on improving our team and processes whilst upholding the highest standards within the team as a whole, including taking one-to-one reviews with members of our test team. Since December, I have joined the CQA team and gained proficiency in compliance testing on multiple consoles. This role has given me experience communicating between producers/developers and our in house team, tracking and managing the supply and collection of hardware, build deployment, following the QA lifecycle on multiple projects, using Jira, Helix (Formerly TestTrack) and simple smoke checklists. I have also been called on in a more immediate capacity, taking calls about absences, advising on holidays and timesheet issues, giving advice to those wishing to progress and mediating disputes between testers.
