The Crindau Pill Flood Alleviation Scheme is a £5m project which involves the construction of 2.2km of new flood defences. The project features sheet piling, earthwork embankments, drainage and a bridge refurbishment.The project is progressing well and the piles are flying in, my responsibilities include:-Establishing and subsequently maintaining secondary control throughout the site.-Use of the Leica TS16 Robotic Total Station and CS20 controller with Leica Captivate software.-Frequent use of the Trimble R10 GNSS with TSC3 and Access.-Preparing setting out information from supplied design drawings in AutoCad/ Trimble Business Center.-Setting out to allow precise installation of up to 11m ZZ17-700 sheet piles.-Maintaining accurate piling quality assurance records.-Maintaining accurate as-built records of line and level to prove permanent works meet the design requirements.-Setting out and QA for RC works, Inc capping beams, walls, bases and bridge parapets.-Setting out and QA for 2 engineered bunds Inc all testing required.-Site compound set up including procurement of signage, fencing and drawings as well as establishing and maintaining HS&E paperwork ensuring sub-contractor compliance.-Identifying and marking STATs on the ground to confirm GPR survey and direct trail holes.-Liaising with DSR regarding design and buildability issues.-Building a Quality Assurance, inspection and testing strategy.The role is constantly evolving, the project is demanding yet always interesting and presents a number of challenges to overcome which is invaluable for continued personal development. The scheme will defend 600+ homes and businesses from flooding, enabling a positive future for the area.

Upon my return to Galliford Try my work has been Independent and self directed, I have been responsible for planning the engineering required and managing my time efficiently to ensure successful delivery of many aspects of the project.I have been entrusted as the sole setting out site engineer on an umbrella project of the SDLR known as "Decoy Link Road" a £2.6m pinch point project linking the new bypass to Decoy Industrial Estate to allow of economic expansion in the area.My duty's include: - Frequent and accurate use of Trimble site engineering systems (GNSS, Robotic total stations), SCS900 software and Trimble Business Center) - Competent use of additional engineering equipment (dual grade laser levels, Automatic levels and pipe lasers) - Producing and issuing TQs, RFIs, RIWs and Permits to break ground. - Liaising with the client and designer regarding design issues. - General setting out requirements - Quality assurance, maintaining quality records (pipe/chamber check sheets, RIWs, carriageway dip sheets, as built surveys) - Installing and maintaining site control networks. - Producing a site diary tracking my work and the works completed on site.I am competent at engineering: - Carriageways, kerbs, other roadway features - Steel/ Concrete levels - Drainage runs, manholes and ducting - Topographic surveys - Control networks
